RIALOCAINE acts as a local anesthetic, causes a reversible blockade
of impulse propagation along nerve fibers by preventing the inward
movement of sodium ions through the nerve membrane.
Local anesthetics of the amide type are thought to act within sodium channels of the nerve membrane.
RIALOCAINE GEL is indicated for surface anesthetic and lubrication:
The male and female urethra during cystoscopy, catheterization, exploration by sound and other Endo urethral operations.
Nasal and pharyngeal cavities in endoscopic procedures such as gastroscopy and bronchoscopy.
During proctoscopy and rectoscopy. - intubation.
How To Use:
RIALOCAINE GEL is absorbed following applications to mucous membranes or damaged skin:
Surface anesthesia: Male adult urethra: 20 gm of gel.
Female adult urethra: 5-10 gm of gel. During Cystoscopy: 30 gm of gel.
During Endoscopy: 10-20 gm of gel.
Lubrication for Endotracheal Intubation: 5 gm applied on the surface of the tube just prior to insertion.
Debilitated, elderly patients and children should be given doses commensurate with their age and physical condition.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Hypersensitivity to local anesthetics of the amide type or to other components of the gel.
PRECAUTIONS:
Lidocaine gel should be used with caution in patients with
traumatized mucosa and/or sepsis in the region of the proposed
application.
When Lidocaine gel is used in the mouth or throat area, the patient
should be aware that the application of the topical anesthetic may
impair swallowing and thus enhance the danger of biting trauma.
ADVERSE REACTIONS:
Allergic reactions (in most severe instances anaphylactic shock) to local anesthetics of the amide type are rare.
USE DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION: Lidocaine should not be given
during early pregnancy unless the physician recommended to give the
drug.
Lidocaine excreted in the mother’s milk, but in such small quantities that there is generally no risk of affecting the child.
